Facebook has released a standalone app for Events, a feature used by more than 650 million people in total and over 100 million daily. It is live on iOS first, with Android planned next.
As on mobile and desktop Facebook, the Events app helps you browse what is nearby and see which events friends plan to attend. An interactive map and search bar let you filter by place, time, and interests. A calendar view helps you fit events into free slots, and you can sync with iCloud Calendar or Google Calendar to avoid double-booking the same day and hour.
Events is one of Facebook’s more distinctive, high-demand tools. People create profiles, share content, and swap details with many organizing services. Against players such as Yplan, Eventbrite, and Songkick, Facebook Events stands out by making it easier to join social, cultural, and professional gatherings, meet people, and grow your circle, which can also mean more Facebook friendships and a stickier network.
