Amazon plans to open Prime Video in about 200 markets by December 2016, timed with The Grand Tour, intensifying its rivalry with Netflix.

Amazon says its film and series streaming service, Amazon Prime Video, is ready for a much wider global push. The service currently runs in five markets: the US, UK, Germany, Austria, and Japan. An India launch had already been teased. The latest move is to open Prime Video in about 200 markets worldwide as of December 2016.

The global launch is timed with The Grand Tour, the new car show built by the former Top Gear presenters. From December, the series should be available on Prime Video in more than 200 countries. Amazon earlier said it spent $250 million to bring the show and its three hosts on board.

The clearest rival is Netflix, which has already entered Turkey. It is not hard to guess that Turkey will be among the roughly 200 markets on Amazon’s list.
