Starbucks Turkey launches its iOS and Android loyalty app with digital card balance, QR checkout, and stars, while mobile order-ahead is not yet local.

Starbucks, already one of the strongest players in mobile payments, has finally brought its popular mobile app to Turkey. The loyalty-focused app lets you buy favorites like a Pumpkin Spice Latte from your phone.

On iOS and Android you need a Starbucks account. If you already have a Starbucks card, sign in and link it. If not, you can create a digital card after signup, add a credit card, and load balance.

Payments run through that digital card: open Pay, show the QR code to the barista, and you are done. Early users get a free drink reward, and spending earns stars toward more treats. The Starbucks app has long been a reference loyalty product. For the quarter ending December 2015, customers loaded $1.9 billion onto Starbucks cards.

Mobile order and pay, which let US customers skip the line, is not in Turkey yet, though it is expanding in other markets.

The app is central to Starbucks’ global strategy. As of March, 21% of US Starbucks payments ran through the app, and in February mobile orders hit 7 million.
