Apple introduced new MacBook Pros at last week’s event. One product many expected was a successor to the Thunderbolt displays Apple had already stopped making. By the end of the keynote there was no Apple-built monitor on stage. Instead Apple used monitors from partner LG.
Rumors of a 5K, 27-inch Thunderbolt 3 Apple display joined the graveyard of missed calls. Soon after, Apple’s exit from monitors was confirmed. The Verge editor-in-chief Nilay Patel said on Twitter that Apple told him it is out of the monitor business and will not ship a separate display again.
That leaves the field to LG. LG’s Thunderbolt 3, 5K, 27-inch monitors are expected to ship in December.
