Sgnl's watch strap turns finger-to-ear into a phone call via body conduction, already overfunded on Kickstarter.

Sgnl is a watch strap that lets you make real phone calls with your fingertips.

Compatible with classic watches and smartwatches like Apple Watch or Samsung Gear, Sgnl turns your fingers into the phone: index finger to your ear, thumb to your mouth. Swap your strap for Sgnl and its built-in mic carries your voice while you hear the other side clearly.

When a call comes in you need not dig the phone from a pocket or bag or carry a headset. Fingers guide the sound and block background noise, so you can talk clearly even in loud places. Sgnl takes audio over Bluetooth. When a signal arrives, the low-power Body Conduction Unit (BCU) sends vibration through the hand and fingers. That vibration carries sound without harming the body; with the index finger at the ear, resonance makes a strong sound right by the ear.

First focus is human voice. Up to about 2000Hz Sgnl is clear; above that, music through fingertips is not high quality. The team wants to widen the usable range. The companion app adds call reminders, activity tracking, and nudges for important meetings to keep life more organized.

Funded on Kickstarter at $1,420,227 (about 2,849% of goal), Sgnl is $139 on preorder for February 2017 delivery.
