I try to see almost every domestic release so Turkish cinema gets at least a ticket’s worth of support. Some films, though, are worth writing about as much as watching.
Tut Sözünü is one of the few I saw twice in theaters, and one of the recent comedies that actually made me laugh. Lead Kemal Uçar, who played Nuri Pakdil so well in Yedi Güzel Adam, is Bahadır: a calm, mild man whose restless friend Yalçın dies and sets the story going. When his solid friend, cotton stuffed in his ears, shows up at the door, Bahadır’s mind blanks until he learns why Yalçın could not move on. Mission: help a friend stuck in limbo keep his word. Finding and keeping that promise falls on the pair again, and Bahadır’s mishaps along the way are built to make your eyes water from laughing.
Uçar (Bahadır) and Giray Altınok (Yalçın) share the script and leads; Erkan Can, Zafer Algöz, Sadık Gürbüz, and Mehmet Özgür round out the cast.
Go while it is still in theaters. Later you will want it on DVD or Blu-ray (please release the Blu-ray). Enjoy the film.
