After the death of Thailand’s King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Facebook said it had paused all Facebook ads running in the country. The king, born in 1927, was mourned nationwide.
Facebook said advertising had stopped for cultural reasons during the mourning period, and that it did not yet know how long the pause would last. The company said it would keep users informed.
Thai advertisers can still run campaigns that target audiences outside Thailand. Whether the freeze creates a serious revenue dent for Facebook is unclear, but a full country-level ad shutdown is unusual and appears to be a first for the company.
