Lose It, a weight-loss app that has climbed to the top of health and fitness charts on iOS and Android, is rolling out Snap It. The feature estimates calories in foods you photograph so you can track intake by meal, not only calories burned.
How it works: shoot your plate. The app tries to recognize the meal and assign calories, then asks you to confirm the dish and portion in case it guessed wrong. It suggests what might be on the plate, and you can add custom foods.
Once logged from the photo, the entry feeds your daily plan so you can see how lunch fits the budget before dinner decisions pile up. Computer vision will not replace a food scale for precision cooking, but for everyday logging it removes a lot of manual searching.
If Snap It holds accuracy as the food database grows, photo-first tracking could become the default habit for people who abandon apps that feel like homework.
